The project is promoted by the Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ISCSP-ULisboa) and funded by the Work-life Balance and Gender Equality Programme of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism – EEAGrants. The project’s operating organization is the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) and the study is being developed by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa) in partnership with the University of Maia – ISMAI, Open University, Plano I Association, Portuguese Red Cross - Braga Delegation, SOS Racismo and Odal Naeringshage.
Boomerang is a project whose main objective is to characterize the perceptions of immigrant women and men in Portugal about the economic impact of the unequal sharing of unpaid work and divorce, and to analyze its effects on the conciliation between personal, family, and professional life. Thus, the project intends to carry out a scientific study with immigrants of Brazilian, Cape Verdean and Ukrainian nationalities, as well as with professionals who work with them, in order to know their stories and hear their voices.
The results of Boomerang will serve to increase knowledge about the situation of immigrant people in Portugal. This knowledge is expected to contribute to an improvement in their living conditions and to the promotion of gender equality in the time allocated to paid and unpaid work.
