EQUAL - Equality before the law and the right to self-determination of persons with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities in Portugal: An exploratory study

This project sets out to explore the challenges, barriers and opportunities surrounding the implementation of Law 49/2018, the new legal framework that seeks to transpose to the national context the standards of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) regarding legal capacity and equality before the law.

The originality and innovation of the project lies in the interdisciplinary approach proposed, which for the first time combines Sociology and Legal Studies to define and analyse the topic under investigation, while promoting the active participation of persons with disabilities, in line with emancipatory and inclusive research principles. The background and expertise of the researchers and partner organisations across the fields of sociology, legal and disability studies ensure the necessary skills to accomplish our goals.

It is funded by FCT.

Paula Campos Pinto is the coordinator of the project, Teresa Janela Pinto the co-coordinator and the team also includes Patrícia Neca.
