Social|Haters - Hate Speech during the COVID19 pandemic: prevalence, dynamics e patterns amongst young people

This project is funded by FCT in the scope of the financial aid specially dedicated to the research projects that focus on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on hate speech and on the crimes of incitement to violence and hate.

In order to gain knowledge about the displays of hate made by and between young people on social media in Europe before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, Social | HaterS will conduct a survey, 5 case studies and a systemic analysis of Tik Tok content. The results of the project will contribute to the future work of preventing and fighting online hate speech made by and between young people in Europe. This will be achieved with partnerships with Spanish and Italian researchers who also work in the project.

Social | HaterS is coordinated by Maria José Magalhães (FPCEUP, CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa, UMAR) and has União de Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta (UMAR) as its leader entity and CIEG as its partner.
