Women's Defense Dialogues

The project Women's Defense Dialogues was developed within the Portuguese participation on NATO’s project Women's Defense Dialogues. These dialogues were a NATO’s Secretary-General’s Representative Office initiative as part of the agenda “Women, Peace and Security”.

The project was funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Defense and coordinated by Anália Torres.

The project GIESTA – Women and Girls in the Interior and Rural areas – Promoting Equality between Women and Men highlights ‘giesta’ since it is a resistant species along mountains. That same resistance characterizes women in the interior of Portugal, particularly in rural areas. Devolped by Associação Fragas Aveloso – Associação para a Interação Ambiental, Científica, Comunitária e Cultural, the strategic goal of the project is to intervine among women and girls in the rural communities of the interior of the country, specifically in the municipality of Lafões, S. Pedro do Sul.

The project is funded by POISE and has Manuela Tavares as its coordinator.

This project is funded by FCT in the scope of the financial aid specially dedicated to the research projects that focus on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on hate speech and on the crimes of incitement to violence and hate.

In order to gain knowledge about the displays of hate made by and between young people on social media in Europe before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, Social | HaterS will conduct a survey, 5 case studies and a systemic analysis of Tik Tok content. The results of the project will contribute to the future work of preventing and fighting online hate speech made by and between young people in Europe. This will be achieved with partnerships with Spanish and Italian researchers who also work in the project.

Social | HaterS is coordinated by Maria José Magalhães (FPCEUP, CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa, UMAR) and has União de Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta (UMAR) as its leader entity and CIEG as its partner.

The Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (CIEG/ISCSP-ULisboa) developed the project Monitoring and Evaluation the National Strategy for Equality and Non-discrimination – Portugal + Igual as well as the IV Plan for Prevention and Fight Against Human Trafficking (2018-2021) between June and December 2021.

Under Professor Anália Torres’s coordination, the team monitored and assessed the conditions, difficulties and necessities identified after the implementation of policies on the equality between women and men, on the fight and prevention of gender and domestic violence, on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics based discrimination, and on the fight and prevention of human trafficking in the last four years. The evaluation required a deep and rigorous exam that allowed the analysis of the implementation of these policies, the achievement of the stipulated goals and the improvement possibilities for the following political cycle.

Thus, the project intends to carry out a scientific study with immigrants of Brazilian, Cape Verdean and Ukrainian nationalities, as well as with professionals who work with them, in order to know their stories and hear their voices.

The results of Boomerang will serve to increase knowledge about the situation of immigrant people in Portugal. This knowledge is expected to contribute to an improvement in their living conditions and to the promotion of gender equality in the time allocated to paid and unpaid work.

It is coordinated by Estefânia Silva and Cláudia Casimiro.

You can follow the project's study through its Facebook page here or through its site here.
